Confirm the diameter and steel grade

The B2/B3 reference technical sheet covers nominal diameters of 20–150 mm. Confirm availability for each grade and diameter. When requesting 1–6 inch sizes, specify the agreed manufactured diameter in millimetres and the tolerance; exact inch conversions do not define the manufactured size. Sizes outside the stated reference range require separate confirmation.

B2 and B3 are evaluated against the mill type, diameter, ore properties, feed size, liner conditions and current grinding-media performance. GY-45 and Mn grades are assessed separately and must not be assigned B2/B3 properties by default. Wet or dry operation alone does not determine a suitable grinding medium.

B2/B3 hardness references

Property B2 B3
Surface hardness 58–65 HRC 58–65 HRC
Core hardness 56–63 HRC 56–63 HRC

These ranges follow Gangyan’s B2/B3 technical reference sheet dated 19 October 2026. They are reference values, not a guarantee for every diameter or batch. Confirm the ball size, specimen preparation, measurement positions and acceptance criteria. A measured hardness profile and the approved purchase specification determine acceptance; the ranges do not imply a fixed surface-to-core difference.

Verify the batch and test method

  • Chemical analysis associated with the batch or heat and agreed steel grade.
  • Surface and core hardness measurements with the stated method and positions.
  • Nominal diameter, roundness, tolerance and sampling records.
  • Microstructure, impact or drop-test records where specified.
  • A mill test certificate identifying the batch, grade, size, results and issuer.

Impact and drop-test results must identify the ball diameter, equipment, test height or energy, sample, cycles and acceptance criteria. Wear consumption, breakage and spalling depend on the ore and operating conditions and should be compared in equivalent mill trials. A generic test count, wear rate or breakage percentage does not replace those records.

Prepare a technical quotation

Please send the required diameters, tonnes per size, mineral, mill type and destination port. Where available, add ore properties, feed size, current media consumption, breakage or spalling observations, throughput and target P80. Packing, production schedule, delivery terms and payment conditions are confirmed in the quotation for the order.
